Life is Good!

The “Great Recession” has taken a major toll on the black community and forced many to abandon their BIG PLANS, GOALS, and LIFE’S AMBITIONS.  I want to end this year with words of encouragement to all to DREAM AGAIN and GET BACK IN THE GAME of PURSUING GREATNESS.

It’s quite appropriate that I had a teleconference with my last client of the year on December 31st.  This tells me that many folks are finding the courage within themselves again to REFOCUS and REIGNITE their career and larger life plans.

Here are 3 Life Lessons to Take into the New Year:

Life Lesson:  Be Presidential

Just over the last 10 to 20 years we have seen that all the Presidents have their own unique leadership style.  Bill Clinton was a connector of people, George W. Bush was a master delegator who then took it upon himself to make the final decisions, and Barack Obama is the greatest orator this country has seen since Dr. King.

The point of this lesson is to embrace your brand and what you stand for.  Only you can be you and nobody can be you better than you can be you.  Sounds silly, but all you have to do is go out and be original and authentic and the world will grant your wishes beyond measure.

Life Lesson :  Don’t Let Anybody Tell You You’re Not Good Enough, b/c You’re Better Than Enough

Not everyone will like you, believe in you, or support you.  You have to BELIEVE in you and your mission before anyone else will believe.  You have to INVEST in your own ventures before anyone else will put up their hard-earned money.

Isn’t it Time to INVEST IN YOURSELF?

Life Lesson:  Build Up Your Family, Teach Your Children About Money

I can’t think of a greater joy than raising my two sons and helping them along their journey to manhood.  Shout out to all the great dads and super strong moms out their that put their children first, but also force their children to make responsible decisions as they mature and grow.

The schools don’t teach children about money matters, so the parents have to take on this task as well.  Do you have a will and some life insurance so that your family will be protected if something unexpected happens to you?  Don’t bury your head in the sand on this one, because NO ONE will ever love and provide for your children andyour future better than you.

So once again I just want to encourage you to believe again and take time to celebrate your success in life thus far and make plans to DO BETTER in the NEW YEAR!!!

Much Love and Continued Success,

Dennis

Defining Daddyhood!

I know Daddyhood is not a real word, but I’m here today to offer that it does have real meaning. From my experience as a daddy of two, I can count on one hand the number of times my boys have called me father, and at least three of those times they were joking or trying to trick me into buying them something.

Daddyhood in Action

You see, the meaning of Daddyhood comes from all the small, seemingly insignificant moments (as seen by the outside world) spent with your children that make a man someone’s Daddy.

For me Daddyhood starts about 6:30 in the morning when my youngest son, Aaron, jumps on me in my bed asking me if he can use my phone to play online games, it continues about 7:45 when my oldest son, Austin, ask me if I can make him some of my Big Momma’s secret recipe oatmeal before he goes out the door to school.

Daddyhood Teaches Bike Riding

A big part of Daddyhood for me is when I leave the house to head to my office or to a business meeting. Providing for one’s family is a BIG, SUPER-SIZED, HUMONGOUS, part of Daddyhood. I shake my head in disgust at all these young boys and dead beat fathers out here that refuse to get a job or start a business or even rake somebody’s leaves than take responsibility for their offspring.

Even worse, many of these financial leaches will let their wives, girlfriends, baby mamas go out and work for 12 hours a day while they stay at home and sleep, smoke weed, and play video games all day. How can a person be so STUCK ON STUPID. Just pitiful.

Daddyhood Values Education

My agenda of Daddyhood continues on those special days I get to pick my boys up from school and talk to them about their days. A very important Daddyhood suggestion that I want to give to all the dads reading this post is to keep the radio TURNED OFF while you ride with your children in the car. Precious moments can be created during those rambunctious good times when your young people are just bursting at the seams to tell you about all the excitement, joy, drama, and sometimes problems that they have encountered during their days activities.

This is the time where you can really gain your child’s heart and form an unbreakable bond between daddy and child that will continue even in those rough teenage years.

Finally my Daddyhood day comes to a close after a couple hours of bike riding, video games, or ball playing, when we go inside the house to sit down with mom, my lovely wife Lavern, and have dinner as a family and wrap up our day.

So I must say, Daddyhood is so much more than being someone’s biological father and cannot be substituted by sending in a court-mandated monetary check to help provide financially. Daddyhood is hands in the mud, sweat dripping down your face, all out work! Your children have to see you involved in their lives to appreciate the love that you have for them.  Some young people might not even have your last name, but they still proudly tell all their friends, “That’s my Daddy!”

Daddyhood Takes Teamwork

So now that I’ve defined what Daddyhood is, don’t you want to join in the fun. It is such a joy and an honor to help develop the minds and affect the lives of your children.

Yes, I encourage you to join the Daddyhood movement with all it’s highs and lows, responsibilities and challenges and get a chance to experience all the joy and satisfaction I receive from my boys as we go through life together.

Much Love and Continued Success,

Dennis

Worst House Equals Best Investment!

The late, great Business Leader A.G. Gaston said that the secret to getting rich was to Buy Low, Sell High, and Keep Good Records. We can definitely apply this advice when it comes to investing in real estate in this NEW ECONOMY.

It might sound like a strange or down right crazy recommendation, but NOW is the time to buy a house for your family's personal use and dwelling or possibly look into buying an investment property.

When you look back at the causes of the recession, it wasn't buying a home that got people in trouble, it was buying a home THEY COULDN'T AFFORD that caused so much pain for so many homeowners. You don't have to make the same unsound financial decision they made as you embark on your journey to owning the “Starter Home” of your Dreams!

Start your homebuying experience by just driving neighborhoods in different areas of your town that you would like to live in and get a feel for the community, your prospective neighbors, and how your family might fit in. Once you have determined 2 or 3 neighborhoods that would work for your family, you want to start looking for the homes in disrepair, with high grass and poor curb appeal, and even fading paint or broken windows.

This property will be your DIAMOND IN THE ROUGH, your future masterpiece, your new home. Smart advice has always taught us to look for the Worst House in the Best Neighborhood. Once you find your property, negotiate the purchase price, close and receive your keys, then it's time to ADD VALUE to the property with a modest renovation and some well thought out updates.

This is how the game of real estate is played. Buy Low and Sell High. Here's a great resource to help you get the how to knowledge needed to find your DIAMOND IN THE ROUGH.

I have always advocated real estate as the IDEAL investment, because of the INCOME, DEPRECIATION, EQUITY BUILD UP, APPRECIATION, and LEVERAGE.

2011 is a GREAT YEAR to buy your first home or investment property. You'll thank me for this article in a few years.

Much Love and Continued Success,

Dennis

Stop Thinking and Start Doing!

When I was in school I learned that work is defined as force over distance (W=FxD).  So it's with this equation in mind that I pose the question about how much are you WORKING toward your life goals.  In my experience I have found that most people TALK about their dreams, goals, and aspirations, but few are willing to take the sustained action (Force) over an extending amount of time (Distance) that is needed to actually see their dreams come true.

What is the biggest goal or dream that you are trying to accomplish this year?  I encourage you to write down that goal or dream and then break down the action steps (Force) that will be needed to accomplish that endeavor and then take the time to allot a realistic time table (Distance) that you need in order to complete all of the required action steps.

It is encouraging for me as I search throughout the web and see brothers and sisters from coast to coast that are WORKING (applying a sustained force over an extended period of time) on their goals and dreams by taking their IDEAS and actually CULTIVATING THEM into THRIVING ENTERPRISES.

Big props go out to strong, intelligent, and courageous people like Cedrick Harris, Patrice Washington, Andrew Morrison, Nicole S. Cooper, Carl West, and Hotep who all have been kind enough to share their vision and leadership with the world and our community in order to make life better for all.

If you have some time, take a look at one of the latest books by Hotep, it's called "Hustle While You Work" and it really gives a spectacular call to action to many of us still THINKING about starting a business or being successful in 2011.  Here you go:

My goal for today is just to show you that it takes TIME to be successful, but if you put in that TIME with true WORK, not just sitting and talking about what you want to do, all of your life's dreams can come true.

Much Love and Continued Success,

Dennis

Wake Up People (The Storm is Over)!

This is a Public Service Announcement.  The Great Recession is over people, whether you like it or not.  The storm is over and it's time to come outside, assess the damage, and start the rebuilding process. Now is the time to seize new opportunities, new ventures, and NEW MONEY in 2011.

I know that it's unsettling for you to realize that just a few short years ago you felt that you were on top of your game, your career or business was headed in the right direction, or you were just about to get your degree and you were poised and ready to accept that $80,000 per year job offer.

Then IN A FLASH, it was ALL OVER!!!!

It may be painful, but it's time to realize that your JOB might not be coming back, your 401K ACCOUNT might have lost most of it's value, and even your HOME may now have a NEW FAMILY living in it, but you have to realize that you still have THE POWER to make your dreams come true.

Yes, it's time to wake up people and realize that the GOVERNMENT'S not going to help you, your BOSS isn't going to help you, and even your FRIENDS aren't going to help you.  Only YOU can save YOU!!!!

If it is to be, it's UP TO ME.  That has to be your SUCCESS MANTRA for 2011.  So Turn off the TV, get your BUTT OFF THE COUCH, and go to WORK!!!  Everyday is your chance to DO BETTER than the day before and build the life you WANT and DESERVE.

Here is a great video that I found that will get you started as you rebuild.  These brothers have been in the game for over 10 years and they have built a great company and continue to grow their empire.

Hope you enjoyed the video.  Yes people, The STORM IS OVER, let's go out and get some NEW MONEY in 2011!!!

Much Love and Continued Success,

Dennis
